Elfrida Water Improvement District receives generous New Gleeson Well donation, boosting supply and supporting community water reliability.

The Elfrida Water Improvement District (EWID) is proud to share some uplifting news with our community, a major infrastructure gift that will strengthen our water supply for years to come. Thanks to a generous donation from Riverview LLP, EWID has received a new production well, complete with a pump and connection to our existing pump house.

Known as the New Gleeson Well, this contribution represents an investment of more than $200,000 into Elfrida Water Improvement District’s local water system. It comes at a pivotal time, helping ensure reliable service while the district continues long-term upgrades and expansion projects.

Strengthening Elfrida’s Water Infrastructure

The New Gleeson Well has been drilled to a depth of 720 feet and delivers an impressive 220 gallons per minute. The well’s direct tie-in to the district’s existing pump house allows it to seamlessly integrate into our infrastructure, providing both capacity and redundancy when it’s needed most.

In a rural community like Elfrida, where every drop of water matters, having a strong and resilient water system is essential. This new well not only supports current demand but also provides a critical safeguard against unexpected outages or maintenance downtime.

A Donation Arriving at the Right Time

This well could not have come at a more crucial moment. In recent months, Elfrida Water Improvement District’s faced unexpected challenges when two of our operating wells broke down within the same month. The temporary loss of those sources placed additional pressure on the district’s remaining wells and reminded us all how vital redundancy is in maintaining consistent service.

The donation from Riverview LLP provides immediate relief, ensuring we can continue to meet the needs of households, and businesses throughout Elfrida while repairs and construction continue on other critical projects. It’s a prime example of how partnerships between local organizations and the district can produce lasting benefits for the entire community.

“This contribution strengthens our ability to deliver reliable water during a time of transition,” said Robin Varnum, General Manager. “We are truly grateful for Riverview LLP’s generosity and commitment to the wellbeing of our community.”

Building for the Future

While this donation significantly improves system reliability, Elfrida Water Improvement District’s broader mission continues. The district recently secured a state infrastructure grant to support additional upgrades, including well rehabilitation, system expansion, and emergency storage improvements.

These projects take time, careful coordination, and community patience. Each new investment, including the New Gleeson Well, helps build a foundation for long-term water security in the Elfrida area.

By combining public funding with private generosity, the district is better equipped to plan for population growth, climate variation, and the increasing demand on rural water systems.

A Reminder to Conserve

Even with this exciting progress, water conservation remains essential. A new well adds capacity, but it doesn’t replace the need for mindful water use. Elfrida’s semi-arid climate means every drop counts — and community cooperation plays a huge role in maintaining stability.

We encourage all customers to adopt small but meaningful habits, such as:

  • Repairing leaks quickly, even a slow drip can waste hundreds of gallons a month.
  • Limiting outdoor watering to early morning or late evening hours.
  • Running dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
  • Turning off taps while brushing teeth or rinsing dishes.
  • Checking irrigation systems regularly for leaks or overspray.

A Community Effort

The success of our local water system depends not only on infrastructure but also on the people who make Elfrida a strong, connected community. The district deeply values the partnerships that make progress possible, from local businesses and contractors to residents who continue to conserve, report issues, and stay informed.

The New Gleeson Well stands as a symbol of what can be achieved when community members and organizations come together with a shared goal: ensuring a sustainable, dependable water future for all.

We extend our sincere thanks to Riverview LLP for this extraordinary act of generosity, and to every customer who continues to support our conservation and improvement efforts.

Together, we’re ensuring that Elfrida Water Improvement District’s water system remains strong, not just for today, but for generations to come.

Sincerely,
Robin Varnum
